ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS

No matter your age or ability level, the YMCA of Harrison County will help you develop a comfortable and satisfying exercise program. We understand how essential exercise and social interactions are to seniors, particularly those with arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, diabetes and other chronic conditions. We strive to provide a wide range of activities to promote overall health, fitness and wellness. 
These programs are open to all members, but specifically address the needs of our older adults.

VIDEO YOGA -
Tuesdays 9 - 10:00 am Fridays 9 - 10:00 am

FITNESS YOGA - This yoga style combines the traditions of yoga along with the principles of exercise for strength and flexibility training.  Many of the classic postures have been modified to allow all levels to participate and keep the tension in the joints to a minimum. The class begins with warm-up postures, moves into standing work, balancing poses, seated and more restorative poses.
Tuesdays  6 - 7:00 pm (Begins June 8th)
 
STRETCH & BALANCE – Stretches for all muscle groups, deep breathing, and beginner yoga postures are the focus for this class which will end with guided relaxation encouraging stress management and increased muscle strength and flexibility.
Thursdays  8 - 9:00 am (Begins June 10th)

GENTLE MAT PILATES return to top 
Sessions: (Ongoing) Tues., 5 - 5:45 pm & Thur., 6 - 6:45 pm

Description:
A kinder, gentler mat Pilates class designed to increase core strength and to promote greater range of motion and flexibility. Gentle Pilates is ideal for members new to exercise.  Members will learn how to use fitness circles, flex bands, foam rollers and other small props to enhance their workout. This class offers a safe and effective workout designed for all.

T'AI CHI return to top 
Sessions: Wednesdays, 6 - 7:00 pm
Description: The ancient art of Tai Chi uses gentle flowing movements to reduce the stress of today’s busy lifestyles and improve health. Find out how to get started. Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. To do Tai Chi, you perform a series of postures or movements in a slow, graceful manner. Class suitable for all levels.

Where: Therapy Pool
Description: Aquajoints is a warm-water, low-impact exercise class for those with physical limitations or arthritis. The program is a slow-paced aerobic workout with emphasis on controlled movement, improving strength, flexibility and endurance.

Challenge fellow Wii enthusiasts to a game of horseshoes, shuffleboard, trivia or darts. If billiards, table tennis, or duck hunt is more your style then the new Wii Play disc is for you. Of course bowling, tennis, baseball, and golf are still available too!

JESUS, THE ONE AND ONLY return to top 
Sessions: Thurs., 6:45 - 8:45 pm (begins 8/5/2010)
Description: Get to know "Jesus, the One and Only" through an 11-week Beth Moore Bible study. This life-changing journey will lead you through the Holy Land to a more personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This interactive study includes personal, daily assignments and weekly group sessions which include Moore's video lectures.

oLD TESTAMENT BIBLE STUDY return to top 
Sessions: 7 - 8:00 pm, Tuesdays July 20th thru Nov. 2nd
Description:
Join us for a Bible Study and discussion based on Life Principles from the Kings of the Old Testament, a series on character and leadership qualities. Using both good and bad qualities in kings of Israel and Judah, we will explore how we should respond to the call of leadership and servant hood. Each week, there are five short readings to be completed outside of class and weekly we will gather to discuss the readings and explore what they mean for today.
