The YMCA Group Exercise program provides a wide variety of classes offered at various times each day. Classes are available for all levels of fitness. Our classes emphasize overall health, fitness, wellness and skills. Our instructors are highly trained and ensure each participant top-quality instruction in a safe environment.

SIZZLIN' STEP CLASS return to top 
Sessions: Every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month, 7-7:45 pm  
Description: A fun-filled aerobics class (32 count) that utilizes the step for an intense cardiovascular workout.  Step burns 30-60% more calories than traditional aerobics with a particular emphasis on hips, thighs, abs, and buttocks.  This class also may include power step and interval step, which includes body-sculpting moves and aerobics exercise on the step. This is a great body shaping, fat burning, and strength training class all in one.  This is a class that can be tailored to your fitness needs.

Joe Bent - PilatesPILATES

ABOUT PILATES The Pilates Method, developed by the legendary physical trainer Joseph Pilates, is a full body exercise system. Emphasizing body alignment and correct breathing, Pilates uses the abdomen, lower back and buttocks as a power center, enabling the rest of the body to move freely. Pilates is a series of controlled movements, performed on a mat or on specially designed equipment. It improves flexibility, joint mobility, balance, coordination, breathing and posture. This mind-body technique is a more efficient way of exercising. The outcome is long and strong muscles, a flat stomach, a strong back, and improved posture.  

Pilates is appropriate for anyone, young and old, athletic, sedentary or in physical therapy. It is for individuals who want to improve strength and flexibility without building bulk. Practiced regularly, Pilates aids in preventing muscle and soft tissue injury. Pilates told his students, “You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions, and have a completely new body in 30 sessions.”

A kinder, gentler mat Pilates class designed to increase core strength and to promote greater range of motion and flexibility. Gentle Pilates is ideal for members new to exercise.  Members will learn how to use fitness circles, flex bands, foam rollers and other small props to enhance their workout. YOGA

WHAT IS YOGA?  Developed in India, Yoga is a psycho-physical discipline with roots going back about 5,000 years. Today, most Yoga practices in the West focuses on the physical postures called “asanas,” breathing exercises called “pranayama,” and meditation.
WHAT YOGA CAN DO FOR YOU.  Yoga is good for what ails you. Specifically, research shows that yoga helps manage or control anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, blood pressure, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue, depression, diabetes, epilepsy, headaches, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, stress and other conditions and diseases. Here's just some of the benefits of Yoga:

  • Improves muscle tone, flexibility, strength and stamina  
  • Reduces stress and tension  
  • Boosts self esteem  
  • Improves concentration and creativity  
  • Improves circulation  
  • Stimulates the immune system  

Please arrive a few minutes early to prepare for class. PLEASE TURN OFF ALL CELL PHONES, PAGERS, ETC. BEFORE CLASS.  Students should dress comfortably in non-binding clothing and bring a yoga/sticky mat and a densely woven cotton or wool blanket to class. Please read class descriptions and choose a class appropriate for your level of experience in order to fully benefit from your yoga class.

FITNESS YOGA - This yoga style combines the traditions of yoga along with the principles of exercise for strength and flexibility training.  Many of the classic postures have been modified to allow all levels to participate and keep the tension in the joints to a minimum. The class begins with warm-up postures, moves into standing work, balancing poses, seated and more restorative poses.

STRETCH & BALANCE – Stretches for all muscle groups, deep breathing, and beginner yoga postures are the focus for this class which will end with guided relaxation encouraging stress management and increased muscle strength and flexibility.

STRETCH & BALANCE FOR PARENT & CHILD – Stretches for all muscle groups, deep breathing and beginner yoga postures are the focus for this class which will end with guided relaxation encouraging stress management, improved parent-child bond and increased muscle strength and flexibility.
