Cycling, Running and Power Walking

About Cycling:

Contrary to what you may think or see, cycling is not as hard as it may look.  Yes it can be quite vigorous, cycling is one of the highest calorie burning aerobic classes available but participants are encouraged to go at their own pace.  Not only will you increase calorie expenditure, you will increase your breathing capacity and muscular strength in your legs.  Cycling is open everyone of various fitness levels.  Make sure to bring plenty of drinking water with you.  Heart rate monitors are also recommended for the class.

INDOOR Y CYCLING

6 – 6:45 a.m. Tuesdays & Thursdays

Ongoing/Shireman Studio

Instructor: Mary Ann Reynolds

The Y-Cycling program can help make your fitness goals a reality. With no complicated moves to learn, a motivating group setting, enthusiastic instructors and invigorating music, you will find yourself having a blast while you ride your way to a leaner, stronger body. You will get a heart pounding yet low-impact work-out, regardless of your fitness level, while maintaining the ability to go at your own pace.  Every class is a little different, but one of the great things about Y-Cycling is that it is adaptable to your fitness level. Regardless of how fit, flexible or coordinated you are, you’ll get a great workout. Simply hop on your bike, set the resistance to the level that’s right for you, and let your instructor guide you through an incredible ride.

Are you ready to ride? Comfortable workout clothes, a water bottle, towel, and a sense of adventure are all you need to get started.

Mary Ann Reynolds has certifications with the YMCA in Cycling, Group Instructor, and  Personal Training.

HOLY CYCLING

6 – 6:45 p.m. Thursdays  Cancelled!

Ongoing/Shireman Studio

Instructor: James Moore

The YMCA is dedicated to developing not just the mind and body, but also the spirit. This class offers more than just physical and mental strength and endurance.  In a world filled with spiritual burnout and stress, it will help you find the edge you need to stay strong.  Come and improve your overall cardio endurance and muscular strength while sharpening your spirit at the same time.  The Bible says, “As iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another.”  Each class will start with a short devotion.  We will also incorporate Christian music to help us tackle hill climbs and sprints.  The way to lose weight and burn fat is through cardio, and the way to stay consistent, is by targeting the spirit and body.  Come and join us for this fun Christ-centered class.

To reserve a bike for the Indoor Y-Cycling or Holy Cycling class, participants must pick up a ticket at the Front Desk, no more than 20 minutes before class starts. Cards will be available on a first come, first served basis.

EXPRESS GROUP CYCLING

12:15 – 12:45 p.m. Thursdays

Shireman Studio

Instructor: Steven Krough

This is an introductory class for beginners and those returning to exercise. Hills and flat terrain are simulated by using various resistance levels on a stationary bike. You control the bike tension to make this workout as challenging or as easy as you like.

About Power Walking:

Power walking is a simple yet effective way to get a total body work-out. It is a vigorous yet low-impact aerobic activity that utilizes all the muscles in your body to achieve walking speeds up to 5mph. Power walking can tone and strengthen muscles as well as help manage body weight by burning calories.

POWER WALK

Ongoing/Walking Track

Instructor: Lana Dougherty

Grab your water bottle and indulge in the great aerobic benefits of power walking interspersed with fun and challenging fitness intervals. Class convenes at the upstairs walking track.
