THE BENEFITS

OF

WATER EXERCISE

 

Land Exercise offers tremendous benefits, but too often those benefits are accompanied by aches and pains, overheating, sweating and feelings of exhaustion.  Water allows us to achieve all the wonderful benefits of exercise without experiencing these side effects.  After water exercise, you'll feel refreshed and full of energy.

Regular water exercise can improve all five components of physical fitness: aerobic fitness, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility and body composition.

We offer water exercise in many forms including Arthritis exercise, Senior's Water Aerobics, General Water Aerobics and Special Needs Water Aerobics.  For more information, read below.

After-School Water Aerobics

3:45 -4:30 p.m. M, W

Therapy Pool

This class is an intermediate level water aerobic class emphasizing low impact movements to help improve strength, flexibility and endurance. It is not as fast paced as the Y's Ways to Exercise class.

Class ends May 19th and resumes August 21st.

AQUAJOINTS

(Previously AFYAP & Y's Way for Seniors)

Therapy Pool

Aquajoints is a warm-water, low-impact exercise class for those with physical limitations or arthritis.  The program is a slow-paced aerobic workout with emphasis on controlled movement, improving strength, flexibility and endurance. 

 

Y Members/$2.50 per class or

Non-members/$5 per class

 

Deep Water Aqua Jogging  (Fitness Pass Class)

6 – 6:45 p.m. Fridays

Lap Pool

This Aqua Jogging class is great for individuals who want to build their running endurance without the strain of gravity on their body. The low gravity environment is a great way to pamper the sore muscles or minor running injuries. Float belts and related equipment are provided for this class. Individuals must be comfortable in deep water. Registration required one week before class. Class size is limited to 10.

Deep Water Aqua Jogging  (Progressive Class)

7:10 p.m. to 7:55 p.m. T, TR

Lap Pool

This progressive class is great for individuals who want to tone up or stay in condition in a low gravity environment.  Float belts and related equipment are provided for the class.  Individuals must be comfortable in deep water.  Registration is required one week before class. Class size is limited to 10. This class will meet 2 nights per week for 3 weeks.

Poolates Water Aerobics (Int./Adv. Level)

Therapy Pool

Pilates takes a dip into the pool, adding a water aerobic twist. Poolates will focus on developing strength, flexibility and stability in the core muscles. Strengthen your abdominal and back muscles, improve your posture, relieve stress and tension and more in the warm-water atmosphere of the therapy pool. First timers should start at the beginner level in the Prenatal class.

Pre-natal Water Werobics/Intro. to Poolates

10 - 10:45 a.m. T, TH

Therapy Pool

Pregnant or post-natal women can exercise in the comfort of the water or beginners can try their hand at Poolates. The buoyancy feels good and diminishes the pain associated with weight-bearing activities. The class increases strength & flexibility and assists in recovery following delivery.

Physician’s approval is required at the first class.

Water Exercise for Youth with Special Needs

(Ages 12 & under)

5:30 - 6 p.m. Fridays

Therapy Pool

Trained personnel will guide children in this recreational group activity, designed to help improve their sense of well-being.  Though not a clinical program, physical benefits such as increased muscle strength, improved coordination, endurance and ability to perform daily tasks may result.  An attendant must accompany all participants, at no extra charge.  

Note:  Participants 13 years and older may join an adult water aerobic class or try adult open swim.

Shallow Water Exercise Class

Shallow water exercise is a fast-paced, jazzed-up aerobic workout to improve your strength, flexibility and endurance.  Trained professionals will lead you in low-impact movements that give a great cardio workout.
