Here at the Y, we want all of our community members to be safe. We implement policies to ensure our members and guests that they get the most use out of our facility and programs. Review some of our policies below:
Ages 12 and older may use the facility without their parent or guardian present. Youth under the age of 12 must be accompanied by someone 16 or older to use the facility. Please see each specific room/area for age restrictions.
Ages 12 to 15 may use the Cardio and Cybex areas in the Wellness Center only after obtaining a Youth Fit Certification. Those between the ages of 12 and 15 will need to obtain a Youth Fit Certification and be accompanied by someone 16 or older to use the free-weight area. Youth under the age of 12 who have a written doctor’s note and obtain a Youth Fit Certification may use the Cardio and Cybex areas in the Wellness Center when accompanied by someone 16 and older. Those ages 12 and older may participate in group and aquatic exercise classes unless otherwise noted.
Ages 8 and older may use the gymnasium without a parent or guardian present in the gym. No gum, food or drinks, except for water in a plastic bottle are allowed in the gymnasium or during a supervised Y activity or Y approved event.
Youth of all ages are permitted on the track. Those under 8 need to be accompanied by someone 16 or older or with an organized Y program. Strollers are permitted on the walking track at any time. Please be courteous to others and use caution. 12 laps on the track equals one mile.
We hope that all members and persons who use the track extend respect to others. Remember that there are 3 lanes available on the track; a walking lane (the inside lane), a jogging lane (the middle lane) and a passing lane (the outside lane). Please watch and be courteous to people who need to pass.
Youth 8 – 11 may use the lap pool when accompanied by someone 16 or older in the facility. Youth under 8 who pass the swim test may use the lap pool when accompanied by someone 16 or older, either in the pool with them or on the lap pool deck. Youth 12 and under will need to complete a swim test as identified by the attending guard. Swimmers may be asked to wear a life jacket and/or be within reach of someone 16 r older in the shallow end of the pool.
Youth may use the therapy pool during open swim time. Youth under 8 need to be accompanied by someone 16 or older when using the therapy pool during open swim time. See the monthly Therapy Pool schedule for hours of operation and class days and times. Adults are welcome to use the therapy pool during aquatics group exercise classes.
- No food, gum or drink, except bottled water is allowed in the pool areas.
- Walk slowly on pool deck.
- Do not enter the pool unless a YMCA of Harrison County lifeguard is present.
- Swim diapers or rubber pants are required for non-potty trained children.
- Only U.S. Coast guard approved Personal Flotation Devices are allowed.
- Please shower before entering the pool.
- Diving is permitted only in the deep end as indicated on the pool deck.
- Lap swimmers should circle swim and share lanes. Each lane can accommodate six swimmers.
- Kick boards are for lap swimming only.
- Street shoes are only allowed on deck on the outside of deck drain. Aqua shoes are permitted in the pool.
- Swim test to be allowed to swim in deep water; a person must be able to swim from the shallow end of the pool, out to the safety line and back without stopping. The lifeguard has the discretion to test and restrict any individual who may be a safety risk.
LOCKER ROOMS AND LOCKERS
Children over age 2 should use the proper gender locker room or the family/special needs locker room. This allows for privacy in the gender specific locker rooms. The family/special needs locker rooms are larger, private locker rooms. Cell phone usage is prohibited in the locker rooms and restrooms.
The use of lockers and locks is encouraged but locks MUST be removed daily. For full-time locker use, monthly or yearly locker rental is available to members for a fee of $10 a month or $100 a year. Please inquire at the Service Desk for more information regarding locker rental. The YMCA of Harrison County is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items. Locks that remain on lockers overnight will be cut off and contents will be kept for one month before being discarded.
PROGRAM REFUND POLICY
If the Y cancels a class/program before the start date, all fees will be refunded in full. In the event that a class/program is cancelled by the Y after it has begun, the amount refunded will be pro-rated. Participants withdrawing from programs will receive refunds based on the following policies:
If cancellation occurs in writing before the start date of the class/program:
– 100% credit or refund (participant’s choice) for amounts paid minus program deposits, administrative, supply or uniform fees, if applicable.
– For classes/programs with recurring weekly/monthly fees, bank or credit card drafts will be stopped.
Cancellation any day after the start date of the program:
– At the discretion of the Program Director.
– Medical/special circumstance after the start date will be at the branch’s discretion, with a written request. Additional documentation may be required.

The personally identifiable information that the YMCA collects from you when you pledge your support to the YMCA of Harrison County includes: your name, address, email, phone number, and credit card information, when you provide it. The information is used to provide you with a receipt for your gift and to bill your credit card when applicable. We use commercially reasonable efforts to maintain the integrity of all information collected.
In order to improve our services to you, we may ask some of our customers to voluntarily complete surveys, which may be collected by an independent third party. Individual survey answers are confidential, although non-personally identifiable information is collected and may be disclosed to third parties. If you do not wish to participate in a survey, simply decline to participate when asked.
The YMCA offers free newsletters and promotional emails as a service to our customers. The YMCA will send you newsletters and e-mails periodically listing current specials and deals. To stop receiving our newsletter, send an e-mail to us at email@example.com.
If you contact the YMCA or our customer service representatives by telephone, email or letter, we may keep a record of your correspondence or comments. YMCA of Harrison County staff, employees, volunteers, members, participants, and guests are to act appropriately and maturely, behave responsibly and respect others. Our Code of Conduct outlines prohibited action, but is not an all-inclusive list of behaviors considered inappropriate in our facilities or when participating in our programs.
- Use or possession of alcohol, tobacco or illegal chemicals is prohibited on YMCA of Harrison County property or at sponsored programs.
- Carrying or concealing a weapon or any device or object that may be used as a weapon.
- Harassment or intimidation by words, gestures, body language or any type of menacing behavior.
- Physical contact with another person in an angry, aggressive or threatening way.
- Verbally abusive behavior, including angry or vulgar language, searing, name-calling or shouting.
- Sexually explicit conversation or behavior; any sexual contact with another person; and wearing inappropriate, immodest or sexually revealing attire including but not limited to sports bras, revealing of nipples, genitals, and or/ buttocks.

- Use of video recorders, cameras or any other visual recording devices in the restrooms or locker rooms or using one of these devices inappropriately.

Any violation of this Code of Conduct may result in suspension or termination of membership, program participation and/or visiting privileges to the YMCA of Harrison County.
